We are living through the unraveling of everything we were told to trust—institutions collapsing under their own weight, leaders failing upward, rights being erased in real time. Every week, another headline makes it feel like we’ve slipped further into chaos.

But nothing happening right now is new. The crises we face—whether political, cultural, economic, or technological—are the result of choices made long before we got here. They are patterns, not accidents.

How the Fuck Did We Get Here? is an investigative op-ed series that exposes these patterns—tracking the power structures, historical echoes, and institutional betrayals that have led us to this moment.

This is not passive journalism. This is a reckoning.

What You’ll Find Here

Every Monday at 9 AM PST, I break down the crises shaping our world—whether it’s the rollback of rights, the quiet resurgence of fascism, the rise of surveillance capitalism, or the systemic failures hiding in plain sight.

I expose who holds power, who benefits, and who pays the price, connecting personal experience with historical patterns to force the only question that matters:

How the fuck did we get here?

Each piece will challenge what you think you know, uncover the cycles that keep repeating, and demand a reckoning—because silence, complacency, and ignorance only serve those in power.

Who I Am

I’m Alisa Sieber—a former Marine Corps pilot, sexual assault advocate, and nonprofit founder turned investigative writer. I spent nearly two decades inside the systems I now expose, believing in institutions that were never meant to protect people like me.

I have been:
🔹 A military officer who watched leadership failures destroy lives while DEI was blamed for the consequences.
🔹 A sexual assault advocate in the Marine Corps under a president who bragged about assaulting women.
🔹 A woman balancing motherhood and service, punished for needing time to recover.
🔹 A whistleblower who saw truths buried under bureaucracy and silence.
🔹 A veteran who walked away from the military because the system was never built to change.

Now, I write to make sure people see the patterns, recognize the cycles, and refuse to look away.

I keep asking, how the fuck did I get here? until it makes sense. I write about healing, trauma, relationships, & the beauty of the mundane. As a veteran & advocate, I ask society the same: how the fuck did we get here? I reckon, unravel, repeat.
